DHAKA, August 24, 2026: Canadian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Ajit Singh held a meeting with Bangladesh’s Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury on August 24, with discussions centering on strengthening economic cooperation and expanding bilateral trade.
During the meeting, High Commissioner Singh praised the Finance Minister’s efforts to advance key governance reforms, particularly in the areas of finance, commerce and taxation.
The talks come as economic ties between Canada and Bangladesh continue to grow. Bilateral trade surpassed $4 billion in 2025, creating fresh opportunities for both countries to broaden commercial engagement.
The two sides explored potential areas for deeper cooperation, including agriculture, education, energy, financial technology (FinTech), healthcare, security and defence.
They also highlighted the importance of the longstanding people-to-people connections between Canada and Bangladesh, noting that these strong ties could play a significant role as both countries work to diversify trade under a fair and rules-based international trading system.
The Canadian High Commissioner and the Finance Minister agreed to maintain close cooperation and pursue new avenues of partnership aimed at delivering greater opportunities and a better future for people in both countries.
The meeting reflects growing momentum in Canada-Bangladesh relations, particularly as the two countries look to expand economic cooperation beyond traditional areas of trade and investment.
